Our Training & Development Programme
Learnership for Unemployed Young People
In 2009 the GBCCI, and two of its members, rolled out a learnership programme for unemployed young people from Boksburg. ITO Focus East Rand and Carpe Diem Kaleidoscope are both longstanding and proud members of the GBCCI.
Creating the learnership programme was done with sponsorship from the East Rand Chambers of Commerce Trust (ERCoCT). Twenty young people were given the opportunity to register for an NQF Level 5 Certificate in Management and they completed the training that ran over 11 months and concluded in December 2009.
In 2010, they rolled out phase 2 of the programme by approaching Boksburg-based companies to get involved in the project by committing to hire a few of the learners for the last year of the learnership programme. Comair Limited, a proud member of the GBCCI, has supported the project since its inception in 2009. Upon completion of the project at the end of 2010, Comair Limited employed 11 of the 20 learners. These participants remain gainfully employed at Comair Limited and are doing extremely well within the Comair Limited Group.

The major objectives of the 2010 Learnership Project were to:
- Provide unemployed youth the opportunity to participate in a learnership programme that lead up to a registered qualification in management, while gaining valuable work experience;
- Provide unemployed youth the opportunity to obtain permanent employment on successful completion of the learnership and
- Provide companies in the Greater Boksburg Metropolitan area an opportunity to participate in a meaningful social responsibility project.
